The Baghamunda Village community is located on the banks of the Chilika lake and the area under its protection is known as Kianasi or Kolinasi. The marshy lands, extensive open water and wetland attract birds from far, making it home for several migratory and local birds. The lake is highly productive with rich fishery resources and it sustains the livelihood of the fishing community who live in and around the lagoon. The community recognizes the importance of the wetland, its rich biodiversity and economic potential. The Village committee is the main institutional body responsible for conservation of the wetland. Apart from that, Baghamunda also has a registered Fisherman Cooperative Society. The youth has also formed a club called the Somanath Dev Youth Club.They have also initiated efforts to develop it as an eco-tourism destination for an alternate source of income.
