A study was undertaken regarding the sanctification of the forests in various parts of this region. The sanctification of forests began due to the socio-economic changes that occurred in the structure of these villages. These villages were sanctified for 5 years generally after which most villages reverted to a different type of protection of their forests. This type of conservation is mainly limited by the lack of viable alternatives for the resources from the forest. This system is not viable for a long time because of increased pressure on the other forests and the transgressions of the higher class villagers. This system can be improved by asking for the inputs of women and allowing self-mobilization of the villagers instead of allowing them to depend on external funding.
