The villagers set up a Van Panchayat (VP) after 1939 to protect their forest. The entire village came together to make a protection wall and plant oak and pine saplings. This forest remained untouched for 3 years. In the last few decades, due to corruption and funded schemes there has been a decline in the efforts of the villagers to protect the forests. In the late 1990s, an all-woman van panchayat council was elected. This was beneficial for the forest and the environment. After an incident in 1999, the VP also learnt the importance of transparent governance. This governance helped the entire village to prosper and even harvest one timber tree per household for their needs a few years ago.
