Pitagurha Village conserves parts of forest of the Garjan reserve forest. Agriculture is the primary source of sustenance for half of the community while the other half is landless and depends on wage labour. Timber and firewood are important resources that the community collects from the forests for their use. The community associates immense importance to the forests and forest conservation practices in all sociocultural events, particularly during rituals and festivals like Chaita, the worship of Mother Earth, and Nua Khai, which celebrates the new rice paddy of the season. Previously, the destruction of the forests by outsiders had made the community realize the significance of community conservation.
