Huta village protects and maintains the Huma temple. This temple is a Shiva temple and the mahaseer or kado fish are revered here as a depiction of the Matsya avatar of Lord Shiva. The villagers consider this fish religiously important and they believe that harming or catching these fish is a sin. The stretch of Mahanadi which is near the Humma temple is perfect for the mahaseer fish to flourish and the villagers contribute to their conservation immensely. This area is also home to a number of other animals who can benefit from conservation. However, the villagers have noticed a decrease in the number of kado fish and this may be due to excessive fishing downstream or upstream. The state government has shown interest in making Huta village a sanctuary for the mahaseer fish.
