The Jagatpur community follows an age-old tradition of conserving the natural wealth. The conservation effort was initiated by the Gond tribe, with the objective of sustaining livelihood. With the rapid depletion of forest resources, the objective shifted from community sustenance to long-term sustenance of the forest. The Jagatpur forest is a source of vital products like those from numerous tree species, bamboo and firewood for the community. The Jagatpur Forest Protection Committee was formed in 1998 and it has laid down rules for the efficient governance of the CCA.
