The villagers decided to regenerate the forests after witnessing the depletion of natural resources due to excessive felling of trees for bamboo and timber. They decided to form a Natural Resource Management Groups (NaRMG) with the help of the NERCORMP-IFAD project. They soon observed impacts such as increased water availability and the reappearance of wild animals. This also benefitted the poorer villagers due to the collection of NTFP. This was a new programme and there is potential for more area to be brought under the community based conservation and for more income for the locals with the protection, rejuvenation and collection of major NTFP like bamboo.
