This area began conservation in 1985. Conservation efforts began with the building of check dams and reservoirs to supply water to area that were drought prone. The perennial river Arvari was protected and an organisation called the Arvari Sansad was formed as well. The villagers all understand the ecological importance of conserving and protecting the Arvari river. This initiative has had many ecological benefits and it has increased the self-confidence and socio-economic status of the villagers. They turned a black zone (drought prone) into a white zone (water surplus).
