The villagers here practiced jhum cultivation extensively which caused them to face a shortage of firewood, food and water. NERCORMP-IFAD project started in this village in 2001 and started forming Natural Resource Management Groups (NaRMGs) and SHGs. The NaRMG and Village Council began discussing the importance of catchment areas with the villagers and the villagers agreed with the idea of conserving the forest. The villagers now have other sources of income which have decreased their dependence on the forest, like paddy cultivation. This has helped to regenerate the forest and bring back the wildlife in these forests. The main hurdle to conservation is the lack of cooperation by the other villages nearby. A proper survey of flora and fauna has also not been made.
