The people of Ngainga village started conservation after they experienced acute shortage of water and decrease in supply of firewood due to rampant deforestation. This prompted them to start working with NERCORMP-IFAD project which helped them start natural Resource Management Groups (naRMG) within the village. The village noticed a big change in their environment after participating in conservation activities and they were able to have a consistent water supply. The village wants to convert their protected forests into a wildlife sanctuary, which could benefit them ecologically and economically. The poorer members of the community are given a little more leeway and can harvest NTFP and small timber to help fix their houses.
