The Pipal Khunta Village community depends on the Village forest and its products for their sustenance. The community started forest conservation in 1987, after Villagers realized that the forest cover had gradually declined owing to large scale wood logging by timber mafia. The community faced many difficulties because of the shortage of fuel wood and non-timber forest products. The Village community of Pipal Khunta then coordinated with the Forest Department to protect and conserve the forest under Joint Forest Management scheme. They constituted a formal institution called the Village Forest Protection Committee in 1991. The committee has developed its own bye-laws to conserve the forest.
