Potalpani forest is thick with rich biodiversity and is well connected to the Kanha-Pench corridor. The forest, besides being home to various species of flora and fauna, is also rich in medicinal plants. The community is also aware of the ecological and social importance of the forest. The conservation practice in Potalpani Village was initiated when the community sensed that their natural resource was dwindling at a fast rate. Forest conservation was carried out either through the efforts of the Joint Forest Management (Joint Forest Management) Committee or with the support of the Forest Department. in 1994, Joint Forest Management Committee was merged with the Forest Department initiative of forming the Forest Protection Committee. This helped the community to collectively work towards protection and conservation of the forest.
