Praharajpur Village is part of the mangroves ecosystem in Bhitarkanika region, characterized by soil salinity, brackish water, lack of irrigation and limited dependence on mangroves as source of fuel, fodder and building material. Agriculture, livestock rearing and fish cultivation are the major sources of income for the vilagers. With substantial depletion of the mangroves the impact is evident in poor housing conditions and and limited access to house building materials. The Eco Development Committee (EDC) formed in 2003 conducts monthly meetings and has documented different aspects of Praharajpur forest conservation process, and maintains meeting records and cash books, etc. Similarly, there is a youth club known as Parameswar Youth Club and nine women based self-help groups (SHGs) that work towards and support the cause of forest conservation.
