In the 1990s, an oral ban on hunting and felling in the forest was made by the Toufema Village Council (TVC) and this was not very effective. In 2001, the TVC issued a formal ban on hunting and felling and this was very effective. Eco-tourism is being introduced in this village and the regeneration of the forest is very successful. The wildlife and birds in this area have also been coming back now. Collection of firewood and fuelwood is now possible in this village due to abundant forests for the poorer communities in this village.
